The Way I Dress {Guest Post by: Miss Raquel}

‘I would love for you to post about the way you dress and why you dress the way you do and the type of clothes you wear to cover your skin…’

That was what Saff requested me to guest post on.  Haha A little daunting!  Well, maybe not daunting, but…it’s a lot to sit down and write.  I mean, I could seriously write a book about modesty!  AND…Saff wanted me to write this in just a couple days!?  Yikes!

So, I decided to break down her request into three categories.  Here is Number 1.

The Way I Dress:
Well, to put it simply, I dress modestly.  I dress according to what I believe pleases God.  I dress in the innocence of wanting to help keep my brothers in Christ from stumbling.  I dress so that I don’t reveal what only needs to be revealed to my future husband.  And I dress for the glory of God.
(::sigh:: that was pretty easy!)

Why I Dress This Way:
Like I said above, I dress according to the way I believe God wants me to.  In His Word, He doesn’t say ‘dress this and this way’.  I wish!!  But no.  He does tell us – in Titus 2:5: ‘…to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored’.  In some translations, it uses the word ‘discreetly’, instead of ‘pure’.  Discreetly means: ‘inconspicuously’, ‘subtly’, ‘unnoticeably’, ‘unobtrusively’.  ‘Wait, I don’t want to be a rag doll dress in ugly non-fashionable clothes!’  Hold on one minute there!!  Discreetly also means ‘tastefully’.  (You sigh with relief.)  Of course God doesn’t want us to dress in rags and be unnoticed.  He wants us to delight in our femininity, and by dressing tastefully and modestly, we can look just as beautiful as any wordly girl out there can – but even more beautiful, because we are being modest.  We are holding our chin up and going against the flow of the culture that says to reveal our bodies in public.  We are standing for something and Someone greater.
So to answer this question in one sentence:  I dress to glorify God.

The Type of Clothes I Wear:
Ooh!  This is gonna be fun. :)  Well, like I said above, you don’t have to dress in unfashionable, unstylish clothes just to be modest.  You can use two pieces of clothing (that would otherwise be immodest) and turn it into a really cute, God-glorifying outfit!  Personally, I LOVE doing this!!  Just goes to show those immodest, secular clothes designers that they can’t make us dress ugly. ;)
Of course it all depends on your taste of clothing.  For some of you, you may really like turtle-necks.  I don’t. :P haha  Some of you may not like layering, others do.  I just suggest that you play around with the clothes that you have in your closet and dresser and come up with some different outfits.  I guarantee that you’ll come up with some really, really cute stuff!!

Thanks so much for having me, Saff! :)
